A shooting spree in Champaign over the weekend resulted in six injuries and three arrests. Local residents and several groups called for a “cease fire.” “Whatever has prompted the need to fire guns, the community says it’s not that serious,” said Lekevie Johnson, pastor of Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, in an article by the News-Gazette this week.

Meanwhile, police have identified two suspects in connection with the shootings, according to Illinois Public Media. Bond for 23-year old Qwantrell Ayers and 22-year old Kevin Akins has been set at $1 million. “Both are sought on warrants for aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection to a shooting on Friday afternoon in the 1100 block of Mimosa,” Illinois Public Media reported.
